Clif Bar Save Our Snow Winter Roadtrip Launches at SIA
Skiing News LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--World Champion freeskier Alison Gannett kicks off the 2007 Clif Bar Save Our Snow (SOS) Winter Roadtrip today at the Snowsports Industry Association (SIA) tradeshow in Las Vegas. Traveling in an RV powered by vegetable oil, the Clif Bar SOS Winter Roadtrip will visit ski resorts and schools in the Western United States, Rockies and Canada over the next two months.

“The impact of global warming on snow pack levels is being felt worldwide,” said Gannett. “We’re seeing it this up close this year, both in Europe and the Eastern US. The goal of our roadtrip is to educate skiers and snowboarders about the issue and to provide simple steps each person can take to help reduce their impact on climate change.”

A recent United Nations report warns that ski resorts at lower elevations, like those in the Eastern United States, could be shut down by 2030 if global warming continues at its current rate. The same report states that high elevation resorts, like those in the Rocky Mountains, will close by 2050.

“Clif Bar is stoked to partner with athletes like Alison who demonstrate an on-going commitment to protecting winter and the planet,” said Ricardo Balazs, sports marketing manager for Clif Bar & Co, a natural and organic food maker for outdoor activities that has made the fight against global warming a top priority. “We hope the Clif Bar SOS Winter Roadtrip will inspire thousands of skiers and riders to take small acts that collectively will help save our snow.”

ResortQuest Steamboat Springs Welcomes Guest to the 94th Annual Steamboat Winter Carnival
Travel News The Winter Carnival started as a way to help Steamboat Springs' locals with cabin fever during the height of the winter season and has continued to this day as a way to celebrate winter, which is such an important part of our daily lives here in the Yampa Valley. Carl Howelsen, often acknowledged as the man who brought the sport of skiing to Colorado, started this tradition in 1914 with cross country skiing races and jumping competitions. In its second year, the town added skijoring competitions where skiers were pulled by horses.
